A Few Words about "Interfaith" Language
Three words are commonly used about cooperation among religions. The term "ecumenical" means “Inter-Christian.” The expression “Interfaith,” though commonly used to talk about interactions among all religions, more accurately refers to interactions among Judaism, Islam and Christianity and (though not often noted) the Baha’i Faith. Members of these religions are sometimes referred to as the Children of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar or ‘people of the book’; “Inter-religious” means actions that may involve any or all of the world’s religions.
Further Information about World Religions
A few good sources of information about world religions for those interested in further inter-religious exploration are: the book The World Religions by Huston Smith and a two-volume work entitled, How to Be A Perfect Stranger. A good, general web site about world religions is www.religioustolerance.org.
